The Twin Coast Cycle Trail (Pou Herenga Tai) is the Far North’s newest tourist attraction. It streches across Northland for 87kms from Opua in the Bay of Islands westwards to Horeke in the Hokianga Harbour.
It covers some of Northland’s most beautiful scenery and traverses much Maori and early European history.
Often also known as the “Northland Rail Trail” because the trail runs across a combination of a former railway line, purpose built sections, quiet rural roads and a stunning board walk. It also traverses bridges, runs alongside estuaries and rivers and travels through tunnels. It is a “one way” trail that can be ridden in either direction. It contrasts from the bustling commercial port activity in Opua to the serene waters of the Hokianga Harbour at Horeke. It also allows small towns and settlements such as Kawakawa, Okaihau and Kaikohe to be viewed from a different perspective.
See full details of the trail, its history and features on the official Twin Coast Cycle Trail Site.
Our associate company, Twin Coast Cycle Transport and Bike Hire, has a range of eBike and mountan bikes for hire on the trail.
